TIME TO TALK IS OVER
SUMMIT IN COPENAGHEN? A FIASCO?
President Obama addressed the climate change conference in Copenhagen on Friday. The President told delegates," We are running short on time. The time for talk is over. And at this point, the question is whether we will move forward together or split apart, whether we prefer posturing to action."
In stating the United States' position, Obama said there is no time to waste and that America has made its choice.
"We have charted our course. We have made our commitments. We will do what we say," Obama said. "Now I believe it's the time for the nations and the people of the world to come together behind a common purpose."
The President offered the bottom line that the world can embrace this accord, take a substantial step forward, continue to refine it and build upon its foundation.
"We can do that, and everyone who is in this room will be part of a historic endeavor one that makes life better for our children and our grandchildren," Obama said. "Or we can choose delay, falling back into the same divisions that have stood in the way of action for years."
Nice talking, but practically, the international opinion is: Copenaghen was a disaster!
What the implications in Thailand? Difficult to say. We believe nothing will change for years come. Of course there will be no person who disagree the climate is changing, there will be no business man that will miss the opportunity to claim that his business is "environmentally friendly". Recondo, as far as we know, it will be the only "green" example to show on the side of Thailand property business. This is not encoraging but we hope that more people will follow.
